Last August I took part, as a speecher, at the 33rd IBBY International Congress, entitled Crossing Boundaries: Translations and Migrations, at Imperial College London. I spoke about the power of illustrations to transmit information in books addressed to pre-readers. And, at the same time, I dealt with the specific case of the Galician culture, transferred in so many illustrations accompanying literaty texts in the Galician language.
It was Gálix (the Galician IBBY section) who invited me, thanks to the economic support of the Xunta de Galicia...such a huge responsability! The experience was really amzing, as it was the occasion to meet illustrators, writers, publishers and mediators from all over the world. The program consisted of a look into translation, migration, and the mechanisms of transferring information (and emotions, sensations, ...) from one language into another, from one culture into another.
Finally, the reputed awards to the authors of the IBBY Honour List (among them was our Francisco Castro), and then, at the Science Museum, the ceremony of the Hans Christian Andersen awards to the best writer and illustrator.
